When something bad happens in our lives, we often find ourselves blaming anything but ourselves. Another person, a circumstance surrounding an event, or even the Coronavirus. Instead think about how the situation has reason and what the purpose might be. Adopt a mindset that allows you to learn from the event and ultimately better serve you.
Do you tend to see things negatively?
Do you think that everything happens for a reason and that it will serve you?
The story of the old farmer and his horse is told in the episode.
« A farmer and his son had a beloved horse who helped the family earn a living. One day, the horse ran away and their neighbors exclaimed, “Your horse ran away, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not.”
A few days later, the horse returned home, leading a few wild horses back to the farm as well. The neighbors shouted out, “Your horse has returned, and brought several horses home with him. What great luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not.”
Later that week, the farmer’s son was trying to break one of the horses and she threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. The neighbors cried, “Your son broke his leg, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not.”
A few weeks later, soldiers from the national army marched through town, recruiting all boys for the army. They did not take the farmer’s son, because he had a broken leg. The neighbors shouted, “Your boy is spared, what tremendous luck!” To which the farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.” »
This story sets out to explain how there is no such thing as failure. Instead there are only results and it’s the way that you interpret these results that makes the difference.
How do you deal with bad outcomes?
What would you do in your life if you knew that you couldn’t fail?
Imagine that you have a problem and that problem is created by your colleague that did not perform a task correctly. How much responsibility would you take for that problem? What about if the problem was created by you? How much responsibility would you then take? The answer is you should take 100% responsibility, whatever happens if it has an impact on you or on the results of your life. This does not mean to do everything yourself or take everything as a burden on your shoulders. It simply means that you will not let go until you fix the issue that bothers you.
What do I need to take responsibility for?
Do you usually take a hundred percent responsibility?
Do you let others run your life?
It is not required that you be an expert in everything but instead has some knowledge on a variety of things that are important to you. Trust the people that are experts in the topic to share their knowledge.
Do you have to understand everything before you use something?
Are you okay with not understanding everything in detail, but still using it?
Highly successful people tend to surround themselves with other brilliant individuals. Steve Jobs, for example, surrounded himself with the best people to build his company. It’s also incredibly important to have a healthy and inviting work environment to keep employees happy.
Are you surrounding yourself with great people?
Are you creating the conditions so that the people can become great around you?
If you are good at something and every day you go to work you face new challenges and find yourself not really liking what you do, it can be very difficult to overcome all these challenges before it exhausts you. When you are passionate about what you do, working doesn’t even feel like work anymore. You can find your passion by overcoming challenges and by doing many things that give you energy.
How passionate are you about your current job?
Understanding that there is no abiding success without commitment means that you don’t have to be your best all the time. You don’t have to be the brightest, fastest, and strongest but instead, you need to have the biggest commitment.
How committed are you to do the work to become successful?
